Tesla Lightshow

The Tesla Light Show

In this article we will cover the Tesla Lightshow. This feature has been around for a few years, but many people don't know about it or don't know what to do with it. In this article we will explain it.

In 2021, Tesla introduced the Tesla Lightshow for Tesla cars with the Holiday Update. This feature allows all of the Tesla's lights to light up to the rhythm of the music. Even though it's a feature that isn't usually used in everyday life, it's still important and interesting to mention. In this article, we'll describe how to activate the lightshow feature in cars and what you can do with it. We'll also look at how to create your own lightshow or install an existing one.

What is the Tesla Lightshow

The feature is more than just a light spectacle. When the feature is activated, the Tesla can play various light scenarios that are synchronized with the music coming from the speakers. The speakers on the outside of the vehicle will also play the music. The prerequisite is that the software version higher than v11.0 is installed. But that is no longer an issue.

This feature also allows the trunk and windows to open and close. In the Model X, the doors can also be opened and closed.

How do I use the Tesla Lightshow

The Tesla Light Show can now be played on almost every Tesla. You need one of the following vehicles:

In the game box in a Tesla there is a field labeled "Light Show" or "Tesla Light Spectacle". If you press this, you activate the Tesla Light Show that is already stored on the car. It explains beforehand when the light show starts and how to end it. You also have the option to adjust the volume.

Custom Light Shows

The Custom Light Show is another way to use the feature. In addition to the pre-installed option mentioned above, anyone can program their own light show at home or install and use a light show programmed by the community and fans. To do this, you need an empty USB stick that can be loaded with the files.

These fseq files must be installed on the stick. Important: There must be no other content or folders on the stick other than this light show file. Then you can insert the stick into the slot provided in the glove compartment.

There is a folder on the stick that must be called “LightShow”. This contains the files “lightshow.fseq” and “lightshow.mp3”. The latter is the song, the former is the Tesla light show.

If you want to create a Tesla light show yourself, you can do so with the open source software xLights, which Tesla itself provides.

Before use, the USB stick must be formatted to exFAT, FAT32 on the Tesla or to ext3 or ext4 on Mac OS.

Tesla Light Show Update 2022

Since an update in 2022, you can also start several Teslas with the same light show at the same time. This means that they all play exactly the same thing or that a slightly different light show has been programmed for each vehicle. This has huge potential for beautiful choreographies. On YouTube you can find many examples of how fans have programmed a great light show with their Tesla and then played it with many Teslas.

Since then, there have been regular events where such show files are played with as many Teslas as possible.

Tesla introduced the Tesla Lightshow for its vehicles with the Holiday Update in 2021, in which the vehicle lights glow to the rhythm of the music. In addition to the pre-installed lightshow, users can also create their own lightshows or install existing ones from the community. This requires software version v11.0 or higher. The lightshow can be played on various Tesla models, including Model 3, Model Y, Model X (2021+), Model S (2021+), and Cybertruck. The lightshow function also allows the trunk, windows, and, in Model X, the doors to be opened/closed. Since a 2022 update, multiple Teslas can play synchronized lightshows, leading to creative choreographies and fan events.
