It is important to mention that only a few Tesla Model Y with all-wheel drive come from China, the majority come from Grünheide.

The Tesla Model Y rear-wheel drive version is expected to switch to German production during the course of the year. Delivery of this vehicle is currently very fast compared to other variants.

If you want to get a vehicle from Germany, we recommend the Long Range variant because of the range. The handling of the vehicles is the same, but you can of course have even more fun with the Performance if you prefer a sporty driving style.

The trunk/storage space as well as the length of the Tesla Model Y are the same in all versions.

The Long Range variant is the ideal vehicle for many people. It offers range, speed and space with a high safety standard and very fast charging with up to 250kW and 27 minutes from 10% to 80% battery capacity.

In our opinion, however, the Model Y rear-wheel drive (formerly Standard Range) offers the best price-performance ratio if you do not constantly travel long distances in your everyday life.

In addition to the price, the Model Y rear-wheel drive also offers an LFP battery that offers a longer lifespan and more charging cycles than the battery in the Model Y Long Range. Those who rely heavily on the fast charging capability should also note that the LFP battery has a significantly lower charging capacity in winter in cold temperatures, provided the battery is not yet warm.

There is a total of five colors to choose from. In the list mentioned, it should be noted that the Model Y rear-wheel drive variant currently comes from China and Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver are not available here.

Our recommendation is to save yourself the extra cost of the Enhanced Autopilot and full autonomous driving. It is a technology that does not offer much added value over the already standard Autopilot in either the Tesla Model Y or the Tesla Model 3 here in Europe.

There is no information yet about fully autonomous driving and a market launch in Europe. The standard autopilot works very reliably and makes long journeys very comfortable.

The issue of trailer hitches was a major problem for Tesla until the introduction of the Tesla Model Y. Vehicles with trailer hitches were much harder to deliver. Tesla now offers the option of retrofitting the trailer hitch directly at Tesla.

We recommend purchasing the trailer hitch directly from Tesla, as with other suppliers there is a risk that Tesla will not recognize the warranty and that the software communication with the vehicle will not work reliably.

The Tesla Model Y Maximum Range (formerly Long Range) variant will be the best option for many customers due to its range and versatile use. Deliveries will come from the factory in Grünheide.

It is already possible to order all the new colors mentioned above for this variant. According to current feedback, the Midnight Cherry Red deliveries will begin in May. The blue will, however, be delayed until autumn.

The Tesla Model Y Performance variant was the first Tesla car to be produced on German soil. It is the sporty version and has a shorter range than the Long Range. However, the drive is sportier, the acceleration and the top speed make this version a real performance electric car.
